Yes, it would be possible to make up some prosthetic frog corpses and guts but you'd be looking at tens of thousands of dollars of costs for something that'd still only be halfway believeable. These real frogs cost maybe $200 all told and using real animals is not only cheaper, it's also a hell of a lot faster. With effects it takes a lot of time to rig each one of them, to spray the fake blood etc. and if you don't get it right the first time you have to do it over and over. Since these pornos are ultra low budget gonzo affairs it only makes sense to slaughter real animals.
It's funny how they can get away doing it with frogs and fish, but let's see them try it with kittens or puppy dogs... Oh my, even in Japan there'd be hell to pay!
