Hello there, guro fans. Although I'm not a big guro afficionado myself, I have a somewhat strange question I figure you folks might be able to answer.

I am wondering, what is the etymology of the word "ryona?" I first came across this word on youtube, where a series of videos depicting video game women (and occasionally real women, as is the case with the "superheroines in peril" series) were all tagged with one word: "ryona." A little bit of searching led me to believe that this word is Japanese in origin--I've seen it pop up on sites like 3d.skr.jp, and I've also seen it represented in katakana (ri-yo-na). Now, over the course of my wanderings across the Internet, looking at gurochan I saw a few people talking about "ryona," so I figured you guys would be able to tell me. What's the origin of this word? What does it mean, exactly? While I can obviously figure out from context that it refers to the abuse of females, is that what it literally means in Japanese, or did the Japanese themselves take the word from another language, something I suspect from the usage of katakana to write it out? I'm just curious. Thank you very much for your time!

>So this is what we've com to, huh? Billions of years of evolution, 200,000 years of human advancement. Wars, famine, plagues, the rise and fall of civilizations...
>and here I am watching a blurry video of fake schoolgirls fighting each other. Can it get any better than this?
>Nope.

Sorry, can't help you. Though I do know that ryönä is a word in Finnish. Certainly completely unrelated.
