How to "accidentally" lose an eye. (23)

So I'm looking to lose an eye. Why? Because I think one ruined eye looks pretty next to a working one. As long as I don't manage to lose the other then I should be fine.

What's a good and fairly safe way to ruin your eye so that it is beyond repair? Preferably so it is isn't obvious that you've done this to yourself but that's not necessary, it doesn't have to be that way, it would just mean less questions would be asked of me by any doctor.

I thought about buying contacts and deliberately washing on in dirty/tap water because I'm pretty sure that's a good way to get an infection but I have no idea how treatable it is. If it gets infected and I go to a doctor would it be a simple course of antibiotics, eye wash and cured in no time?

With only one eye you lose depth-perception. Also having 2 eyes means you will have on in stock if something should happen to one of them.

Just buy a contact that looks like a broken eye, which you cant see though either. That would be the same, somewhat. http://www.9mmsfx.com/lenses.html

But if you really wanna lose an eye, get a job where you have to work with strong acid/base-solutions. Then have a little accident.
As they say, if you get acid in your eyes you have 3 seconds to react before your eye starts to take damage. If its base, you got 1 second.
But beware, the nerves in the eye are the most sensitive in the whole human body, which means that damage to the eyes is also the most painful.

Also, you would have to walk around with an infection in a very long time before it would damage your vision, i think.

There is a very easy and painless* way to lose an eye:
just stare into the sun long enough. (5 to 15 minutes)
If you want it faster and an explanation for your doctor why you only looked into the sun with one eye, use a telescope.

Personally i' d prefer the suggestions of >>3; esprcially when your intentions are of an aesthetical nature.

*the pain starts when you' re finish

That's missing the point completely.

>>3 With only one eye you lose depth-perception.
I remember hearing at least one person saying that they experienced no noticeable loss of depth-perception. I'm aware of how two eyes work together in providing depth-perception.

As for getting a job working with that kind of material, I wonder what kind of job would involve that kind of work. Perhaps something with a chemistry degree, hopefully not.

I considered the use of a sharp object for a while but I don't think I'd be able to take the plunge, as it were. Not to mention it's not the smartest idea if you push in too far.

I'm sure you've considered that you would be unable to drive if you took out one of your eyes. And you know, be less attractive to other people, have less job opportunities, etc.

And regardless of what other people have said, you /will/ be visually impaired. Even if your depth perception isn't affected, your field of vision will be.

I have a friend who lost an eye due to a paintball game.
He can drive just fine, his license has a 'mirrors' restriction, and as such, he needs extra mirrors in the car.

You could also use a nice sharp knife, stab out the eye.
Or use your fingers and gouge it out.

Just do something with the 'missing' eyeball before you go to the ER.

When some cool guro artist starts to draw 3d pictures, you' ll be pretty pissed with one eye lost on purpose... -.-

no matter how hard you try, this stuff just won' t work with one eye.

There are forms of body-modification for the eye. Metallic inserts under the uppermost layer of the sclera (visible to anyone looking into your eye) are possible, and I know of one man who his having the whites of both eyes tattooed (he has to have it done a small patch at a time, because apparently the pain is excruciating).

I've had to insert contact lenses that I've washed with tap water, and once dry, and I think that's not likely to cause infection. You could try drops of acid, as I know the structures of the eye are much more vulnerable to it than your skin.

Contradict yourself much? Seriously, with 1 eye, you WILL lose true depth perception. Without the information provided by the second eye, the circuitry of your brain can only GUESS at distances.

If it guesses wrong - well. You've just slammed into -ME- at 75 miles an hour on the freeway. Maybe you kill off some family trying to cross the street to visit grandma. Maybe you sideswipe a tractor and trailer, whos driver freaks out and pushes a bus full of schoolkids into the opposite lane of traffic. Or you just fall stupidly to your death off a bridge, because you just couldn't tell how far from the railing you were.

Losing sensory organs, on purpose, is just about as stupid as performing brain surgery on yourself. And yes, I mean to come down HARD on you - this goes far beyond yourself, as I've illustrated above.

Go with the contacts. It's easily reversable (just take out the lens) making it safe for you to drive and do other tasks requiring depth perception, and it creates the effect you want.

if your serious about losing the eye for good, just pop some painkillers and a glass of wine, work a finger into the crevice close to the bridge of the nose, and pop that sucker out. Be prepared to cut the cord off.

You will lose binocular depth perception, but you'll be fine with monocular. Your brain uses the distance and angle of the image from both eyes to work out the disparity so you can view 'true' 3D, but it's not a huge deal. Your brain always 'guesses' things, which is why your senses can be tricked. Though you will have a hard time doing those magic eyes ;) Try closing one eye and looking around, and notice the difference.

I think ruining one of your eyes because you think it looks cool is retarded.. you must be a teenager, right? Or at least have the mentality of one. Get the damn contact. When you're an adult, you'll thank us. (by the way.. a ruined eye like that would really only look hot on a drawn character, not on a real person. common mistake of teenagers, it's okay. you all think you're anime, but you're so not. gotta be hit by reality sometime.)

In the United States, you can not have a CDL (commercial) drivers license if you can only see with one eye. It is firmly against the law! You can keep your private license though. My father almost lost his CDL certification over a detached retina. He paid for the corrective laser surgery out of pocket to prevent his bosses from discovering the problem.
(We're talking THOUSANDS of dollars!)

PS. It DID NOT look cool when the white of his eye was infused with blood! Thank God the doctors re-attached his retina and the blood reabsorbed into his body!

This was no lasic get rid of glasses procedure! He was suspended upside down while the laser was used to actually 'spot-weld' the retina back in place, then seal the damaged blood vessels within the eye.

please Please PLEASE do not damage your eye! You will regret it! If not immediately, in the near future!

No, I think if you pour acid in your eye or gouge it out you will definitely immediately regret it.

I'd reccomend using an eyepatch. Either as training or instead of removing the eye at all.

18 Name: Jack Sparrow : 2008-07-14 13:54 [Del]

I'll second that.

I'll third that, just walk around with an eyepatch and see how it feels and how people react with you "without" an eye. If you really want to remove your eye after that then feel free I guess.

Get someone to juggle three Colt Single Action Army handguns with a bullet in just one of them. Just when he's about to fire the one with the bullet, knock him aside, and he'll accidentally shoot your eye out.

I don't think people should tell this person whether or not its okay to lose an eye.
There are all kinds of extreme body modifications that people go through...
He may regret it some day, but if he's gonna do it he's gonna do it...
who cares. Personally I'd find it more interesting to learn that he decided to go through with it rather than not do it. At least if that happens I benefit in that I get to hear something interesting for a bit.
Otherwise, its his life, who cares. Who cares if he ends up regretting it, or realizing how dumb he was.

ALSO - I think missing an eye is attractive. I'm one of those creeps that actually get aroused when I see someone go by in a wheelchair/missing limbs etc. >_> So...
