What is your favorite death scene / method of dying in a video game?

2 Name: Bloody_Colette : 2006-12-30 21:46 [Del]

Ah, now this is original. Well, I can’t think of an individual death in one game (not counting Final Fantasy 70) that I particularly liked.

However, I did enjoy the remake of Metal Gear Solid’s psycho ninja moment, especially the aftermath. There are also some pretty fun scenes in RE4, where Leon has two deaths depending on his health and situation.

If you really enjoy gore, I’d suggest Bloodrayne. You get to slice and dice as many Nazis as you’d like. However, it’s old after awhile, and it’s a pretty bad game from a gaming standpoint.

Let’s see…what else? I remember killing Link on purpose in Ocarina of Time, to see what would happen. Not very gory, but he’d do this little theatrical death, and just fall over with his eyes closing.

In the remake of Resident Evil for the GCN near the very end, when you fight the Tyrant for the first time, Jill or Chris can be penetrated (depending who you’re playing) by the final boss. You see everything in delicious detail.

Another game comes to mind, which is Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, in which if you have a knife, you can actually stealthily stalk the pedestrians by tapping L3, and sneaking up behind them before pressing the attack button.

Well, I’m sure there are plenty more games I have yet to play with such material, but so far it seems that there aren’t too many gore-centered-games, which is a huge disappointment.

all those games are good examples, but Tenchu comes to my mind as well... Wraith of Heaven in particular. something about Ayane squeeling in pain is very appealing to me

the Beatdown also had an interesting option to either recruit new characters onto your team, mug them, scare them for information, or just beat-the-living-snot-out-of-'em option which was sadistically cool

and i'm sure everyone knows this, but Tekken 4 and 5... when you win with Bryan Fury and punch the crap out of the characters as a victory taunt, is without a doubt my favorite =)

I like a lot of stuff, its just too bad good or even decent scenes are so rare in games, and getting rarer. (See MMO Death Scene topic^^)

If I had to choose a favorite that I can remember clearly... I Think its tomb raider 3, one of if not the final boss impales you through the stomach, life you up, tosses you down off the spike onto your back, and then lunges forward using its insect like from claws to stab you in the chest quickly and repeatedly. Many internets to someone who could record / youtube /rapidshare that scene...

The final boss battle in Revenge of Shinobi for the SEGA Mega Drive; if you didn't defeat the boss fast enough, Jo's girlfriend in the background would get crushed by a massive block of stone.

...and now I have the urge to go make pancakes. Hmm.

Well, it's not necessarily guro material by any means, but I quite enjoy any situation with a cute female protagonist being eaten whole and alive by her opponent. The Resident Evil games never seem to disappoint in that regard, so I have to wonder if some of the creative minds behind them are as into vore as I am.

Specifically - who else but a vore fan could have come up with the Hunter Gamma, an enemy whose main attack is to pick someone up and swallow them, with a nice little struggle right before they slide down its gullet.

I like the Giant Frogs in RE0, because their tongue wraps around the leg, and s l o w l y drags them into theirb belly.

For the protagonist, I don't have one, but blowing apart innocent passerby in GTA3 is pretty fun.

In Silent Hill 2, after you shoot a monster and it falls to the ground and twitches and then you get to kick it.. that little kick is the best part, hahaha it makes me so happy! It's all, YEAH AND STAY DOWN YOU BASTARD

It's a shame that you never really see any hangings, strangulations, or other various types of asphyxiations in games, unless I've been missing anything. The closest I've ever come to one is of course Metal Gear Solid, if you start choking Meryl and then break her neck, but that is a good one that I definitely did a few times. I guess there are possibly some garrotings in Hitman and similar games, but I think it's usually just male targets, never played them. Too bad a garrote wasn't a weapon in the Thief games, at least as far as I played them. Might have been nice to be able to use it on the many innocent female bystanders...and in first person no less.

13 Name: Anonymous : 2007-02-01 22:52 [Del]

If you were a first person shooter guy, Unreal Tournament and Quake III were good for gore. Still a little cartoonish before it got realistic which I liked. With some time and effort (probably too much effort) you could do some pretty nice scenes of your own devising through Garry's Mod. I never played Postal, No One Lives Forever, and Hitman but there was this dude who collected quite a few screencaps of death from that one.

Killer 7, that was undeniably great for gore scenes. That is of course, if you could stomach the game itself. Explosions, decapitations aplenty, suicide, hanging, heads in dufflebags... Heck, it even stars the helpful talking severed head of a teenage girl psychotic murderer who speaks in internet emotes!

OP here, indeed it is... but I had hoped it would be bigger than this!

Another idea, Astaroth in Soul Calibur 1-3 (I think...) has a GREAT move where he jams his hammer/scythe in the ground and bends the other character AROUND it! Lots of bone crunching and GREAT against the female characters... but I cant find that particular move in any SC vids on Youtube or the like... cries

Before I found guro-chan, I found that I would become oddly turned on by death scenes in RE4 and, a long while ago, RE3. I guess the mindless enemies are hot in general -- they're uncivilized, care only for their pleasure/your pain. Sometimes I'd kill Leon on purpose just to watch. It's surprising, and sad, that there is so little RE4 guro art. At least that I've found.

23 Name: Anonymous : 2007-03-08 11:24 [Del]

Ha, same way I ended up finding dear guro-chan... only I realized it YEARS ago, in the good ol NES days. :P Oh.. and BUMP GOSH DERNIT! As the OP this thread SHALL NOT DIE! It shall not surrender! Hail /g/!

Best of GTA;
Vice City is best for regular shooting- San Andreas is more freeform (hence the effects got cut back). If you shoot someone in Vice City with a Micro SMG using Slow Motion cheat- this produces the best image. The melee weapons include screwdrivers and hammers which are more brutal, if less effective than those in San Andreas.

In San Andreas the best girls to kill are potential girlfriends. They have a lot of health so make for more fun. Set on fire, they'll burn screaming for upto 2 full minutes. Fall deaths look pretty cool- use your AK to smack your target off a bridge. SPLAT! You can create a hazard which causes people to fall Lemmings style en masse.

True Crime LA and NY feature neck-snaps in stealth missions. Killable innnocent bystanders include sauna waitresses, strippers, drug dealers girlfriends. Both recommended.

Trapt

Or is this one the sequel, I can't tell. I've never played either. But the gameplay basically centers around this princess or something running around her castle trying to escape her pursuers. Trick is, her only way to fight back is her ability to set a variety of really wicked traps and spring them on unsuspecting enemies. Big points for combos, and many castle areas feature really messed up ways to die. You could also spring the traps on yourself, but why would you want to do that to a princess? You sick puppy.

True Crime: Streets of LA is awesome for that stuff. <3 It's been ages since I've played it but that one stealth level in the club or whatever it was was my favorite. I'd keep doing it just to keep snapping necks. <3

Anyway, favorite death scene in a video game? Oh, that is soooo easy. The Iron Maiden trap scene in Haunting Ground. <3333

All of the HG death scenes are good, even if they are off screen. Off screen leaves some the specifics to the imagination. The game tells you what matters. Flying nailes, crossbow bolts, Iron Maiden spikes, flesh eating bugs....

This thread brings back memories of Mortal Kombat...

Anyone remember Barbarian? Two player fighting game where you could decapitate your opponent. They did a sequel where you could play a woman, but took the head-chop move out :(

Golden Axe was another prime candidate for guro. There is that gladiator game by Capcom where you can hack the female opponent's limbs off (and they carry on fighting!)

31 Name: Anonymous : 2007-03-18 18:20 [Del]

The first death in Snatcher is really beautiful.

32 Name: morosenoodle : 2007-03-20 09:59 [Del]

My favorite death scenes (and the ones that got me into guro in the first place, God bless 'em!) were in the Mortal Kombat series. They're all good- the earlier games had the hotter chick models (Kerri Hoskins, mmmm), but the later games had more spectacular finishers. DA and Decepotion were probably the best: they had so many nice touches, like breast jiggling, begging for mercy, torsos crawling away, blood squirting from severed necks etc etc.

I also liked the ones from Killer Instinct (need moar KI guro... any, for that matter) and various other violent fighting games (Samurai Shodown, Eternal Champions, Survival Arts, Def Jam, etc). Resident Evil was always good for death scenes, ditto with the legions of RE ripoffs (Dino Crisis, Silent Hill). Action games tended to be major disappointments... Tomb Raider, for example? Tons of potential, but every game it failed to deliver. There were plenty of ways to die, but all of them basically revolved around Lara's model collapsing quietly in one place. Boo! Bloodrayne? Same thing, Rayne just collapses. Only in Bloodrayne's case, shitty character death animations are simply inexcusable. You can turn Nazis into twitching piles of viscera, yet not even a single drop of blood when Rayne dies?! Another one that had potential, but failed, was Punisher. The interrogation scenes were awesome... but you could only interrogate guys. Do'h! They really need some mods for that game.

Les' see... Hitman's always good for death scenes, and is just so much fun. Needs level editors, though. Postal 2? Also great, and tons of fun to boot. Oh, and Final Fight! The Game Over scenes were awesome: hot damsels in distress, struggling against their inevitable doom? No continues baby, the bad guys really have won! There were only two of them (Maki getting drowned and Lucia getting squished), but they rocked, and people really need to start bringing back game over scenes like that.

33 Name: Anonymous : 2007-03-22 07:45 [Del]

Anyone tried any of the StudioS games? I like them but wish they would go just a bit further, like being able to hack limbs off etc.

The 3D Mortal Kombat games have potential, but are all a bit too fast. The characters die almost instantly, with no time to watch.

I just purchased The Godfather Blackhand Edition for Wii, and though I haven't gotten quite so far into it yet, one of the first things I did when I was able to hit the streets was to start attacking random innocent civilians. You can do some very basic attacks like beating people down, but much to my delight, I've found that you can also strangle people too, complete with the Wii motion sensing controls. You have to lock onto somebody with the Z button on the nunchuk, then hit B on the remote, and then start moving both controllers forward and backward in unison, much like you were strangling someone. It is so much more satisfying than hitting a button. I read that you eventually get a garrote, so that'll be interesting to try.

Oh yes, and there's a cute nurse in the "hospital" in which you wake up after getting "iced." Completely killable.

39 Name: Anonymous : 2007-04-08 15:07 [Del]

At the beginning of the game XIII you get woken up by a baywatch-babe type lifeguard who almost immidiately gets riddled with bullets from nearby gunmen.

I was shocked and somewhat aroused. The rest of the game was ho-hum...but I remember that part very well.

Resident Evil 4, the Iron Maiden. Fuckin' hell, I can never kill any of the Regenerators/Iron Maidens when I first see 'em - I just love to watch Leon get killed by them. I love the way both pull Leon to them from a great distance...and the Iron Maiden impales Leon, probably more ways than one ;D ;D

Just recently, I was playing on Pro and, when first meeting the Regenerator, I actually wasn't prepared for him to attack. He grabbed Leon and chewed on his neck as he always does (go on YouTube and look RE4 Death Scenes -- it'll be towards the end). But once Leon died and the game started shifting towards the "YOU ARE DEAD" screen, something unexpected happened.

Because I had been so close to the wall, Leon fell when he died...with Regenerator on top of him, still gnawing away, writing his body around like an aroused fish (he was limbless, me having shot him just seconds ago). Needless to say, it was quite arousing..I just wish I had some way to capture it

Well, being a big Male-Death fan, RE4 was like a never ending pornography! I guess I'll like it when Leon gets impaled on those huge spikes a ways through the game, as well as when he gets his head sawed off. The best yet, hmm.

One of my favorite female representations in a video game was in Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2. The only controllable character, Jessica, has, as monty python said, huge tracts of land. Also, you can have her use a whip as a weapon, and her armor includes a bunny outfit, fishnet stockings, and a dancer's costume. Also, when she levels up, you can choose to improve her sex appeal, and if it is high enough, you can seduce monsters.

46 Name: Bloody_Colette : 2007-04-12 04:02 [Del]

There was a pretty good death scene near the very end of "Tales of The Abyss." Though, it wasn't very gory...at least when it comes to people who know gore.

I was dissapointed when they didn't show why one of the major players was called Asche the Bloody.

BloodRayne 2. Turn on gratuitious dismemberment in the cheat codes. Have fun, go mad.

I love how they mix the sex with the violence. Like if you feed from behind, Rayne fondles the tits of the victim. And, if you press square (on the ps2; not sure the equivalent on other controllers) Rayne will slice the people in half.

It's really sexy and hilarious at once as the victims will scream stuff like "AHH YOU STUPID BITCH!!" as they hop away. Even then they're not dead and you continue to kill them more.

You can see the move I mean in this video, about 53 seconds in. The whole video is a gore montage, though; it's just fuckin' sweet.

Actually, I now think it would be even better if you didn't have to kill them. If you could just mame them and then leave them, either to bleed to death or just live the rest of their lives with a couple less limbs...

I'm surprised they have not done it really, as part of the story. Have one of the characters mamed but still alive.

What about Manhunt? Granted, some might say yeah, so what? But may scenes in that game were chock full of yummy carnage. I can't wait for Manhunt 2 to come out. ^o^

I mean, "charging" the stealth meter into the red with the baseball bat. Anyone care for a nice shade of red paint on their walls? May have to clean up chunks of brain & whatnot though. XD

And the wire, decapitating the people, then can use their heads to throw and cause a distraction, and, the longer you have it, it slowly changes color on you. XD

Also, from Snatcher, the one scene where the one person's face was ripped off & it had maggots swarming all around the skull. XD

58 Name: Anonymous : 2007-06-06 04:36 [Del]

I find a lot of games let you kill people far too quickly. Guro is about being aware of the damage, or at least seeing it comming. Even with decapitation etc, the idea that the person is still alive for a few moments to appreciate what happened...

Ya I've been playing Hitman Blood Money again and loving it. I have it for the pc ,so I'm hoping for some skin mods like the other Hitman games have.

Love shooting a chick just as I'm getting killed to , hence the slomo death. You can see the pain in their face as you shoot them. Or a proper belly shot makes them squirm and scream in pain.

63 Name: Yuna : 2007-06-30 12:19 [Del]

I actually first heard about the wang of doom when I joined an RE4 livejournal community. When I first played the game, I was just in the moment - 'OMG LUIS CAN'T DIE! hes too pretty >.<;; Dammit, there goes the yaoi part of the game..oh wait, helloooo Krauser!' Now of course its cheesy as hell. Only on the second playthrough was I like 'Whoah, it really does look like a giant wang!' Especially the way his robe moves and such. Aaand when he stabs Ada with it. o.o

Wasn't quite sure about Krauser's powerful arm, till I thought about it. Yeah, the tentacle, before/after it gets its blades, looks so damn wrong.

Though not quite so phallic, I just love the way the Iron Maiden impales Leon.

Any more Manhunt styled games need females in them. Women are always demanding equal rights, so they should be equally available for maming and murdering!

>>57 Right now i' m playing manhunt too. Very cool game, i love it. but i must also agree with >>70 , to less female victims... no children... (till now)
But the concept is still very good, in my opinion one of the games who comes the closest to our imagination of a cool game.
Yeesh, just modding it a little, like instead of running through fucked up places and killing retards, having fun by sneaking into ordinary-peopels houses and killing them. Would be way too easy but, with extra long fatalitys, fun ^_^

Back to op: i love the kills without shoting arms the most, especially the wire and the plasticbag...
the refrigrator was fun too, but kinda unhandy

I'm playing SWAT 4 again just to play out my GITS fantasy by killing the Sun Flower Society. Load up a building with civis and hunt them all down :) Ordering your own team to torture people is fun.

78 Name: Anonymous : 2007-10-28 21:36 [Del]

I love to arrest all the bad guys and finish the mission in shortest time as possible. Like If I were ona real swat team.

Swat 4 for torture is funny though, because you don´t get any sexual arousal from that.
Besides, there´s no weapon for torture in that game.
There are lethal (Instant Kill) and Non-Lethal weapons
(To arrest the bad guys or rescue civilian)

Has anyone tried Postal 2?

79 Name: ( i ) : 2007-10-29 16:11 [Del]

Hehe ,ya the taserpistol ,mace, shot bag rounds and pepper balls are non lethal. But the sounds people make, especially the women are funny :)

And yes postal 2 is an awesome game, I got all the nude/adult mods for it. There was a dude who made a mod that had female gangs attack each other , but it worked with only one version of P2 I believe :(

80 Name: Anonymous : 2007-10-31 04:54 [Del]

Still, Postal 2 is funnier.
Speccially when you piss (literaly) on other people,
Then they start vomiting around.

Swat 4, the screams are too repetitive, and there is not much fun.

Anyone know if (Michigan Report From Hell) is worth the trouble and effort to get? Do I need a jap console / modded?

82 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-04 02:43 [Del]

michigan is a pretty shitty game.
they released it in europe too so you don't need a jp console.
it's fun, but flawed, and not really worth the time to hunt it down.

Manhunt 2 is pretty awesome, although it is censored, so they had to remove the execution where you rip off a guy's testicles. Still, after one level of Manhunt 2, you won't look at a ballpoint pen the same way again.

85 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-06 16:41 [Del]

Anyone got a list of the wonderful things we can do in Manhunt 2
? Bonus points, if we have choices between male and female victims.
Or is it another male on male snuff fest?

86 Name: Walter Lovecraft : 2007-11-08 16:35 [Del]

>>85

Well, I'm afraid Rockstar is still one huge sausage-fest, but this time, at least the men are slightly less ugly. There are women, and in bondage attire at that, but you can't kill them. Or even interact with them, actually, because she gets off the stage before you can get into the room she's in.

And I wouldn't want to list all the executions here, but:

-shove a body into a trash compacter

-take a piece of barbed wire, loop it around a guy's leg, pull upward, and pull vigorously on both ends; then as he collapses, loop the wire around his neck and saw away at his throat

-rip a Klansman's scalp open with a sickle

-beat someone to death with a toilet cover, Saw-style

-lol, iron maiden

And forget about the cattle prod.

Samus in Super Metroid was decent, she explodes and for a moment you see her non-suited silloette just before she is vaporized.

Though non fatal, Chun li getting the crap kicked out of her is nice...laying on the dirty ground all sprawled out, the fight completely beaten out of her...

Of course, Ada in RE4 when she encounters a chainsaw freak. Vrrroooom....off with her head!

I've been installing old PC games for some visceral blood and boob death.
I have "Return To Castle Wolfenstein" up and going. There was a SP mod that turned ALL male soldiers into custom female ones, mostly naked. But I can't seem to find it anywhere now... hoping I have it backed up on disk somewhere.

Anyone know of a site that specifically deals with mods that add more guro to your otherwise mediocore violent games?

92 Name: Iron : 2008-05-14 10:31 [Del]

A rather masochistic one is Call of Cthulhu: Dark corners of the Earth. Although you do see other people die gruesome deaths, the really awesome part is how physical AND psychical damage is inflicted on the protagonist, i.e. you.

The physical part includes damage zones with various effects, you can for example break your legs, which forces you to crawl around very slowly, while the broken bones make some rather...painful sound effects. Untreated wounds make you bleed to death slowly, and the approaching death has some interesting effects on your perception (like your vision getting black and white etc.). Dying from poison makes you see everything more and more blurry, and so on.

The psychical part is cool too, with fear, pain and insanity having all kinds of effects, playing with your vision and hearing (sometimes radically), making your controls sluggish and so on. At some point, it might even get too much and you automatically commit suicide.

I should also note that I never played a game where you can die in so many different ways, including rather common ones, like getting shot, beaten to death or torn apart by monsters up to quite exotic variants, like getting engulfed by a shoggoth, swarmed by hostile starfishes or crushed by giant waves (and MANY more...).

There is also a szene where you get tortured with electric shocks and drugs, passing out several times, experiencing the whole thing (like the rest of the game) in 1st-person view.

I liked it :)

Is the pc game STILL LIFE ,worth getting?

I've seen a dude dragging a dead naked chick in the demo, but was that it for guro?

94 Name: Anonymous : 2008-05-28 17:24 [Del]

Although I saw the game as rather tasteless, I did enjoy the artistic qualities of cleaving an opponent and watching the resulting cascade of red and yellow in Prince of Persia 2. The strangulation technique was fun too pull off as well.

I'd say, the weird shit you can do in Oblivion, for the PC.

I killed a women down by the water front. Stripped her totally naked ,and then brought her back to life with a unpetrify spell.
She gets up and acts like nothing ever happened. I follow her for awhile, then she dies with a scream and goes limp ,falling in the street. People walk by and look but really don't say much. I brought her back to life one more time, she went home and died in bed.
Kinda funny, and wrong about following a person who you know is gona die......then fucking around with their corpse..thats the funny part ;)

I'd say the most disturbing death scenes are from Silent Hill 4.. Whether you love or hate the game, watching a woman bleeding to death from like 20 stab wounds or a guy getting electricuted is really disturbing.

Oh, but the best game for deaths is Haunting Ground. You play as a chick who is being chased by: a giant who wants to snap you in half, a woman who wants to eat your uterus, your uncle who wants to rape you, and a creepy old skeleton man.

Silent Hill 3 death scenes. Like getting pulled under sewage water by a tentacle and blood begins to appear. With garbled cries.

Or that amazing flesh tearing sound plus scream when a train runs Heather over.

I've just started playing "Time Killers" for the first time. Anyone know of other arcade games this bloody? MK series I'm sure, but there has to be more out there.

totally siding with 60. Luis Seira was the best death ive seen in ages. I was all teary and ready to throw the remote at the screen cuz they killed off the best character theyve made since Leon himself! plus theres the time that hes actually alive trying to help you as much as he can before he fades... so beautifully done ^_^

For the record: MK blows, combat is flawed and ridiculously unbalanced. Also, the kills are unoriginal and unrealistic. Of course, it's the type of game that you don't play because it's good, it's what small children play to impress their friends.

I'm once again playing Kane and Lynch, it's the funny little things that bring me back to it... Like getting grenades in the Japanese club, jump behind the bar with the blond waitress and have fun.

That game got bad press for the wrong reasons.

There has no such thing as a "favorite death scene", but Trauma Center Under The Knife 2 is cool.
