I want to make a guro game (27)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2009-10-21 11:55 [Del]

But I don't even know how to program... Lol.

But I really want to make one. I have some ideas for a game and it sucks having to keep all of those good ideas to yourself and not do anything with them.

So here are my questions...

How can I learn how to program?

How long would it take me to learn?

About how long would it take me to make a game? (Considering that it's a side-scroller with SNES-like graphics)

Would I have to hire someone to do that art for it, or are there good artists here that would do it for free?

I'm seriously considering taking the time to learn how to program and make something awesome for you guys, but I just need to know how practical it is first.

Depends what you want to make, whether you're going to use an existing engine or build you own, and how large you want to make it.

If you want to learn programming, a couple of years i guess.
and you learn by reading books, and of course putting the things you learn into practice.

As far as i remember, theres a program called "Game Maker" which is, you guessed it, a program for making simple games.
Maybe you should try it out for starters, instead of reading computer science.

I downloaded game maker. I just need to learn how to use it, lol.

And I'm no artist, so I still need to figure out how I'm going to get art for the game.

My two cents, besides from learning to draw (lots of books on this subject btw) you can etheir try to attract an artist with the story or type of guro something they would want to draw anyways or pay someone to do it.

I want to create a guro game, but I don't know what a computer is.

You'd make a great game... in a manhunt. :)

Programming is least of wories when making game. biggest job is to make models backgrounds write game scripts.

In case of guro game it should be quite visual, since there is enough of games with violence coming over top.

it will take lots off effort to create detailed guro scene.

Pretty much this.

You won't need to search for an artist if you can prove with evidence of your own work that you're willing to put in the effort. And during the time you spend working on your own you'll be able to formulate your ideas and have a much better jist of what it is exactly you want the art to look like.

>>>9 biggest job is to make models backgrounds write game scripts.

If it's a sprite based side-scroller/platformer then creating sprites and animating them will be not necessarily the biggest time sink but will take the most effort.

I wonder what kind of "guro" you can make using sprites.
maybe you will paint red blob and for FX add some motion?

let's be rational, it is just impossible to make guro without ultra detailed death or fight scenes.
of course we can use static images instead, but it will be quite hard to make significant amount of these images and game will be quite lame in that way.

I thought Demonphobia was nice.

Demonophobia, Xenophobia and Blank Blood come to mind.

in comparison to other games they are just terrible. And i think you will aggre if you at least have seen GTA or "BloodRayne 2" where hot babes run around without heads if you shop them properly.

and if it is supposed to be guro game it must be you who rampage around killing loli zombies and raping them, instead of being victim yourself.

I disagree. I'd rather the main character be the victim in the game.

I'd like to do the artwork for the game myself, as it'd be much, much easier then trying to explain to someone exactly what I want, but I definitely can't draw. I can learn, but I'm just afraid of people finding guro drawings in my house and thinking I'm some kind of psycho.

Basically, without giving too much away, the game I have in mind is going to be pretty similar to the Metroid series. You play as a girl stranded on an alien infested ship who is trying to find her way out. It will have some very detailed death scenes like demonophobia.

My goal is to make the gameplay and story enjoyable even though it's mostly a guro-inspired game. You're going to want to see this girl get killed in as many ways as possible, but at the same time you're also going to be drawn into the game itself and you're going to want to play it all the way through.

That's my goal at least.

It doesnt matter much if done well.
but do you suppose to make game goal to loose it?
if you win it you may skip one or few death scenes. loosing on purpose is no fun.

In that case you should not die instantly but move around while dragging your guts on the road and leaving bloody trails :)
It would be fun to use your intestines as swing rope or to choke enemies. after all that often happens in fairy tales when for example princess makes ladder of her own bones.

By the way Sam&Max season 2 lets you play as zombie. for some time :)

You say you definitely can't draw, and you don't know any programming?

No, it's too easy. I'm not going to insult. Good luck with your game!

(hee-hee)

>>>14 in comparison to other games they are just terrible.

You're comparing sprite based games with fully 3D games which is not only unfair, it's wrong to say they're better as guro games. Demonophobia focuses on the terror of the main character and the explicit viciousness of the pitfalls. A game like BloodRayne 2 allows you to dismember enemies, it's all hack and slash, that's about as far as it goes to qualifying as a "guro game".

>>15
Agreed.

>>>18 No, it's too easy. I'm not going to insult.

That'll save you some embarrassment. Insulting someone who admits that they don't have the necessary skills but wants to learn is, of course, moronic.

You're willing to do it, that's the first step. There are some ways to make a game like that, it will take some time, though - that pretty much depends on how willing you are. There is a very simple programming language called "Blitz basic". It should be easy to learn for a beginner and there's a nice editor programm for making sprite-based games with it.
If you want to start with object-oriented programming, I'd suggest you to learn c#. This language is moderately simple, yet powerful. After learning the basics, you can install the m$ XNA framework, which provides lots of classes and methods for both 2D and 3D games.
Either way, it will take some time and lots of effort to do something like this.

Thanks guys, some good suggestions in here.

I decided on game maker since it's the easiest to use. Although I'm still trying to learn how to use it. I've been trying to learn from tutorials but most of the ones I find really suck. I know the basics at least, which is a start, but the game I have in mind is a lot more complicated then the crappy stuff I'm making right now. So it's going to take me a while before I'm good enough to start my project.

But if the game does turn out like I envision, then I think you guys will be very, very pleased.

good job, at least you took the first step. I'd tell you to check out youtube for some tutorials on how to use it, but finding a good one can be hard...

Well, just for the sake of reading, mind explaining what would the game be like/about?

FAIL. Use [Del] next time. It's not a shame to undo when you fail.
