Has anyone else noticed a sudden lag spike here for the past few days? Half the time I click on anything, it times out, and the other half the time if takes forever to load.
Any idea what happened?
Actually I've been having the same trouble, I assumed there was a server move or something and it'd sort itself out though, but the lack of admin message on the front page makes me question that.
Same problem here, getting timeout errors most of the time.
Boards seem to be fine now, all board types present their something in a second. It was probably a server-side problem that most likely affected other sites from the same host that got noticed and corrected.

GUROchan is actually running on a shared server. Occasionally the other users fuck up, which means the server will be unavailable or slow. This is usually caught and fixed automatically without me being involved.
A permanent improvement in speed would require purchasing a dedicated or virtual server, but because of the amount of bandwidth GUROchan requires, this would easily cost 400-500 dollars per month. Won't happen anytime soon.

I find that any dire slowdowns or timeouts can be remedied by trying again 10 minutes later.

I would rather deal with the shared server than donations too, because not hitting the right amount and having the site go down like 7chan every month until the admins scrape their shit together would be more annoying than slow loading.
Plus, finding space with someone who is all ok with the guro, not a fun job :/

It seemed alright again for a day, but now it's slow again.
Sometimes the pink background doesn't come up (not a problem), other times a red cross instead of a picture, and the pictures themselves take quite long to show up. It even took some trying to get to this topic...
If bandwith is used by lots of anonymous viewers, could the solution be that only those who have registered can view the content?
Still, it's sort of a free gift, and much appreciated!

People need to read this post before they come whining about this again, although I can't say I've had that many problems. It's been a little slower recently, but never to the point of timing out.

You cannot register on boards that are meant to be fully anonymous in the first place. The closest options available to you are names (which you already know how to use) and tripcodes, which usually damage the bandwidth even further by inducing extra drama.
Registration would also prevent many people from contributing valuable material and turn GUROchan into another "let me show you my immense e-penis/e-boobs" karma-farming retard community.

GUROchan does slow down to the point of timing out - and unless GUROchan was recently moved to a shared server, this alone cannot be the cause - but the problem can be easily fixed by finding a time that works best for you to contribute.

Although im a bit relieved about this, i thought my isp was tampering with my nets or conroy was testing his firewall.
