Batou is a much better character, with real depth and worth, whereas Motoko seems to be an archetype rather than anything else, really.
I do love my archetypes though, like the Palmtop Tiger <3 Tsundere.

Some depth was given to the Major in the "Second Gig" season, towards the end. I did like her right from the first movie though.

I watched the first episode of "Naruto" in Japanese, with English subtitles. I thought it weak and never watched another episode. I have no wish at all to inflict the English dub onto myself!

Second Gig was a lot more faithful to the original manga, I felt, although the storyline was very weak next to the first season. I enjoyed it, but really SAC was about Section 9 rather than the Major in my eyes. I do love the Major, but too much, and probably the fault of Oshii's portrayal in the first film, is she the philosophical whiteboard, not a fully fledged character.

Arguably, the entire Paranoia Agent series doesn't exist because it didn't actually happen.
Just because something doesn't take a physical form doesn't mean that the idea or concept cannot exist. ;) The entire basis of a character is that it's fictional, so in that regard, he's on an equal level of existence with every other character in the series, which is to say, nothing but a concept shared with colored lines.

I wasn't trying to sound deep at all... it's a simple fact. The entire point of the series is that you DON'T know what is and is not reality, that that is left up to the individual viewer to determine for themselves. If you think of it so linearly I daresay you haven't gone deep enough into the series. Just my opinion, anyway.
