I've noticed a weird trend. When compared to the people on 4chan and 7chan, people on gurochan generally tend to be nicer. Then again, this just might be me. Anyone agree? Disagree? Have reasons why this might be?

Everybody on 4chan is an asshole. Nothing is well received there (except a few things... eh... you should know what I'm talking about). 7chan is perhaps exactly like 4chan, except with less traffic.
Gurochan users and posters, from what I've seen at least, appreciate people's effort to find artwork and post it here. It seems like we work together or something, for some common interest.
From my observation, 4chan and other boards like it seem to run on randomness, senselessness, and oftentimes idiocy. It doesn't seem that way on Gurochan.
At least, that's what I feel.

The obvious answer is that when you've got a smaller userbase each person cannot afford to be an asshole to everyone else.
We don't have any "fun" boards, so Gurochan shouldn't in theory attract idiots. Unfortunately, thats not the case. Even if they're nice, they're still idiots. This place is one giant circle-jerk.

No, seriously, I've been here for around 2 or 3 years now - people on GUROchan tend to understand each other and they are used to restrain themselves in common. Also, normal teenagers fapping to loli-nekomimi-shoujo-yuri-hentai-moe-desu are afraid of us because we discuss these weird shit like it was natural - as it is to us.
Most people do not want to be here, because we're not something to get cool with - they prefer to go to charonboatdotcom or rottendotcom, coz' it's real shit and our art is just too mild for their hardcore antisocial shock-fest trolling.
I always thought that 4chan and 7chan were assholes because they are the 'filters' of the *chans...
4chan brings in the random idiots from the 'real world', and is like a testing ground. when they become smart enough to realise what a festering hole they are wallowing in, they move to 7chan since it's the same, but slower and more controlled...
finally, after they are 'respectable anons' they filter into a more specific chan based off of their likes. such as 420 for drugs, parachan for paranormal, nekomimichan for neko mimi, and us for well... us.
that's why all the chans start filling up with trolls whenever 4 or 7 goes down(or get banned), since they aren't really 'ready' yet...
To be fair, though, 4chan and 7chan aren't the rudest places on the Internet. Aside from, say, fundamentalist forums, the rudest place I have ever seen is IMDB. Those people are just...monumental assholes.

Look, I've been haunting this site for a while now, and this is the first time I've been drawn into conversation. In my opinion, it's because they can't handle it. The other -chan posters... their trolls are, at best, usually 12-14 years old. Not that there's anything wrong with that (better to get it out of their system early so they can cool off when they get older), but can you see a 'normal' 12-14 year old staying on this site for very long? It'd give them nightmares. And yes, I'm using the term normal to mean 'not those of us here', because I'd figure that a lot of us could have handled it when we were that young. But would we have trolled the same way they do? No, I don't really think so. This place is like a sanctuary for freaks and sociopaths, sadists and masochists. It's just natural to understand that this place is good for some people and not for others.

I can see that. Certainly I feel outcast even with some of my more accepting friends. 'Don't mention/post guro!' and the like. It's hard not to feel an affinity with other gurochanners when everyone else seems to treat you like a freak or, worse yet, some sort of social experiment (although there are enough of them on gurochan too, those who are 'just interested in the art and what draws people to it').
i, like most people, have always used 4chan as a place to vent stress by trolling people and searching for epic threads to watch. i remember constantly refreshing /b/ for hours on end, watching desu spam, that fucking cat, and delayclose.jpg fill every thread. i have no idea why that was so much fun then.
other than that, i mostly do translation works/checks on other boards (i also did those jissou translations a while ago). as i recall, gurochan used to have a lot of foreign users, and they are generally a lot more polite (possibly because it takes a firm grasp of english to really be an ass), although now idk how that is.

I've found people on gurochan to be nicer too. But it's fairly niche, so there's lots of like minded people in concentration. Also due to the content people are mostly open minded and won't judge you.
I frequent /g/ mostly and it's ironic that I find nicer and more helpful people on a board revolving around people being killed than you'd find on a normal forum, lol.

A lot of times they do find that 'smarter people' (IQ based, IQ has a lot of problems which I won't even begin to explore) are into deviant cultures. I wouldn't say that that makes you intelligent just because you are into guro though, rather than many intelligent people are drawn to it, for various reasons. In my own experience, I know that most people I meet into guro do tend to be at university or at least heading there, so they'd be slightly above the average IQ, presumably.
I have a police/criminology text that suggests people who are into elaborate sexual practices resembling what you see on guro are often about average IQ as well.
