There are now over 150 threads in /req/. Things get kinda out of hand with a lot of mini threads...
Especially with Kareha it would be sensible, IMHO, to group most of them together, since threads stay alive a long time on Kareha, but someone who is new to the board will most likely not go through 150 different tiny threads. On the other hand, he or she might go through one or more of the bigger threads that focus on more general stuff. Also, I think bigger threads will make interaction between the users easier and more productive.
I have started into this direction with this thread:
[GENERAL] Thread for requesting character guro [COLLECTIVE]
http://orz.gurochan.net/req/kareha.pl/1119193677
I guess there could be more threads that could focus on collecting similiar kinds of requests, like requests for certain kinds of violence, certain artists, certain themes, etc.
Do you think this would be a good idea? If you do, please don't hesitate to start a [COLLECTIVE] thread and also guide others to it if you see new threads popping up that could have had their requests posted in the [GENERAL] threads.
I have nothing against GOOD NAMING of threads, and categorization is a huge plus. If the users of /req/ managed to hold such a standard, that would probably improve its effectivity and usability thoroughly.
Will the requesters actually be able to follow a larger system, or is "gimme porn" the only thing that'll be in their mind? I don't know. Would stricter rules for requesting make this standard easier to apply?
You bring up an interesting point DEEPjKeito. I don't people would bother to follow a system like that. The only possible way, I think, of something like this working is if people had to sign up for a real account instead of having the ability of posting right away. But that might turn people away from the site.

I think the best thing the admins can do is make a disclaimer on the board (I think there's a note field defined somewhere that lets you do that) that this should be followed. Something like:
> The only possible way, I think, of something like this working is if people had to sign up for a real account instead of having the ability of posting right away.
What does having a "real account" have to do with "something like this working"?
>I think the best thing the admins can do is make a disclaimer on the board (I think there's a note field defined somewhere that lets you do that) that this should be followed.
That and strict moderation might be the way to do it (I'd have to force more people into working as moderators). If requesters don't follow the standards, their posts will be permasaged or deleted? Punishment might not be the right thing to do, I wonder.
It could also be applied as a test. The standards are available and supported by the administration, but people are allowed to use the board the way they feel it should be used. This is a way of "hinting" in the new system, if only users would adopt the idea.
I don't think strict moderation is the way to go, I see how badly it works on certain other sites... After all, we're mostly here for civilized (heh) entertainment and not for building up what (at least I thought) is left behind with the register-only fora et al. At least that's how I see it. If everybody of the users does his or her own little part, there shouldn't be too much of a problem.
But it would be definitely a good idea to see the administration approve of this and do its part in guiding users and esp. newbies to these new sorts of threads.
After thinking a bit more about this, I think it would also be good to clean up the boards after awhile anyway, with or without general threads (the general threads should be maintained, though). Just purge all threads that have been made after the setting up of the general threads and had no useful activity for more than, say, 3 months or so.
