I just had a curious urge to see if much of gurochan listened to the same kind of music. Seeing the Cannibal Corpse album covers in /f/ and /g/ just made me wonder what the hell everyone here actually listens to. Sooooooo....
Lately I've been listening to alot of experimental EBM and industrial. I listen to a good amount of death metal and black metal, and lean towards the more avant-garde and techncial stuff. I love noise, Masonna and Merzbow are frigging awesome, and generally the more inhuman and strange something is, the more I like it.
I listen to pretty much everything short of country-western.
Lately though I've been listening mostly to "New Music"... Schoenberg in particular I got a bunch of new recordings from. Also Steve Reich... I'm a music nerd. I was a big fan of VNV Nation for a while too.
Anything and everything, kiddo. At the moment I'm listening to music from Katamari Damacy and the title music from Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst, because they're on two different computers, and I'm about to go play. :x
I'm mostly into metal/industrial type stuff but also rock in general. Not really a lot of death metal in my collection, though I have a few albums from DEATH and of course NAKED CITY. Lyrics are easily as important as the music itself for me. Some favorites: SODOM, RAMMSTEIN, DANZIG, TIAMAT, MONSTER MAGNET, NINE INCH NAILS, WUMPSCUT, early BLACK SABBATH ...
I'm a fan of all sorts, though I've been trying to chip away at the overpowering levels of angst by listening to happy, fun stuff.
Not exactly Bubble-Pop, or Happy Happy Joy Joy, but things that are genuinely fun and upbeat. And a whole butt-load of techno, and videogame music. I don't really follow any particular bands, or composers, but instead follow the same general musical curve.
Makes it real fucking hard to find a particular kind of song when everyone throws suggestions by the band name.
Right now, I'm rather addicted to Dr. Reanimator - Move your Dead Bones.
Not sure if this is actually helpful in the least, but hey, I killed some time, and bumped your thread.
Industrial and EBM for me. Industrial as in FLA/Skinny Puppy not pansy pretentious NIN crap!
ZOMG VERDI > ALL
ok.. why do industrial fags hate on nin for making their favorite type of music palatable to the masses?
fuck off.
Velvet Acid Christ are my favorite when it comes to EBM. Also, Tactical Sekt, Pigface and Ambduscia are pretty high on the list.
And the book/movie Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas rock. (That's where the samples from VAC - Fun With Drugs come from, but I'm guessing you all know that.)
As for industrial music it is mainly just when others play it.
hmm... C.o.B, Death, In Flames, [some] Marduk, Myrkskog, Warmen, Einstürzende Neubauten, dillenger escape plan [w/patton], Mike Oldfield, Zappa, Hendrix, CCR, the doors, vivaldi, beethoven, j.s. bach, lrdsfcd.
without listing entire dierectory structures or labeling genres, that is a broad spectrum of music. everything from grinding noise of D.E.P. to fast paced technically inclined pieces [such as the fourth movement of beethoven's seventh or any selection of warmen].
there is no shortage of great music in the world ;P
-black metal (traditional/oldschool/melodic/experimental)
-gothic metal
-hardstyle trance
-drum and bass
-anime and video game music
-tool, kyuss
:)
Here's a few albums I would deem "Essential"
Download - The Eyes of Stanley Pain: This album is absolutely increadible. I can't urge you people enough to listen to it... dark, intricate, a masterpiece with all the complexity and ordered chaos of a Hieronymus Bosch painting. It might take months to sink in, but it is absolutely worth it. Oh yeah, the cover art by Dave McKean is awesome too.
Sephiroth - Cathedron: Dark Ambient with occasional brutal tribal drumming. Impossibly massive... Listen to the first track in 96kbps here: http://www.coldmeat.se/sounds/audio/sephiroth/sep_wolftribes.mp3
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2: There are no words to describe the surreal music here. At times increadibly beautiful, at others absolutely alien and unsettling. Its another album that takes time to sink in, but very rewarding.
please recommend me awesome unknown gems of albums, gurochan.
i listen to a little of everything normally, i'm ashamed to say that i really like kylie minogue...
but at the moment i find myself only listening to nick cave and tom waits.
whatever...
nick cave :3
henry's dream and you'r funeral ... my trial, both heavily reccomended albums~
<the carny, wheni first came to town, the ballad of robert moore and betty coltrane>
well well well...
I just came back from a VNV Nation show. Not a huge fan before, but I got really lucky and got to chat with Ronan Harris for about an hour before the show. Following that, and the openers, they played one of the BEST shows I have ever been to, regardless of genre, complete with a second encore. Then, I got to chat with Ronan and Mark after the show a bit. I'm just a little regretful that I didn't have a camera with me for the show.
I <3 electronic music. Particularly Drum and Bass. Anything with a pounding bassline is usually good for me, and for downtempo stuff I like triphop. I also listen to an eclectic mix of all sorts of other stuff ranging from do-whop to J-pop.
a few of my favorite bands are:
NIN (yes, I like NIN, Trent rules. Deal with it.)
VNV Nation
Front Line Assembly
Assemblage 23
ATB
Aphex Twin
Apoptygma Berzerk
Cake
Crystal Method
Daft Punk (Interstella 5555 is the shit btw)
Depeche Mode
Everything But the girl
Lamb
Portishead
High Contrast (One of the best Drum and Bass producers in the world)
Nu-tone (Again, the best of the best for Drum and Bass)
Hooverphonic
I listen to Horrorcore rap.
Insane Clown Posse
Esham
Gravediggaz
Flatlinerz
Mars
Q-Strange
Triple 9
Avsmak
8: If you ever go to an industrial club you'll understand why I don't like NIN. Put simply, it's over played and not only that, I find it's far too pretentious for my liking. At least when VNVs 'Structure' comes on I can appreciate it for the last 10 seconds of the track, though again, if I had a penny for every time the DJ put on 'Structure'...
What I listen to entirely depends on what mood I am in.
There are times when I pull out my Cannibal Corpse CDs and totally dig them.....
But then again, there are other times when I absolutely need to hear some Dave Matthews, or some Phish.....
Who ever thought that somebody would put the words "Dave Matthews" and "Cannibal Corpse" in the same post? Hehe, I just did.
Why listen to music when you could make it yourself?
'Why listen to music when you could make it yourself?'
I do in fact! Here's the latest lil' semi techno/semi industrial piece I made. Cookie goes to whoever guesses from which film I got the samples :)

Bunk - Suprised you liked that one actually, I couldn't get the drums sounding right, to me they're far too muffled. This could be my speaker setup though, anyway glad you liked it!
Trance - Correct and thanks!
'You wanna bitch about it? Tell it to the knife'
Rorshak for teh win! >)
I'm a metal head, period. All I'm into is rock music, apart from Norweigan Church-Burning Black Metal (Cannibal Corpse I can deal with: American Church Burning Black Metal), Cradle of Filth, Iron Maiden. Basically, death metal, heavy metal, goth metal, Opera metal, classic rock, glam rock, anything not EMO or Indie. I think my faves right now are either Killing Joke, Iron Maiden or Withing Temptation. I don't mind country music, though.
I believe the only music I like that would fit in with the general Guro style is GWAR. They're one of my favourites, but the only band of that type I'm really into.
I agree with a lot of what Torn said - I, too, like happier upbeat music generally, and also find a lot of the time I'll like a few songs from a band and really not be interested in anything else. I'm open to any sort of genre, as long as the song isn't too depressing or melodic. I dislike slow music greatly for the most part. Not really into too much heavier stuff because it's far too serious for the most part. I love either upbeat stuff like Happy Hardcore or some Pop (And sometimes wannabe-Punk/Rock.. I'm comfortable with this. ¬¬), or really retardedly stupid stuff. Sometimes I just like things because I like things, I quite like heavy/rocky beats, guitar and drums from bands such as Nine Inch Nails or Manson. I generally dislike overly-serious lyrics, preferring mindless babble such as MSI or GWAR.
My favourite bands are Mindless Self Indulgence and GWAR, I also enjoy Sugababes, Nine Inch Nails, Ian Drury and the Blockheads, Garbage, Jack off Jill, some Marilyn Manson, older Eminem and a bit of his new stuff, Goldie Looking Chain, Bowling for Soup, Hollywood Undead, some Streets, some Mandy Moore, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, a whole load of video game and anime music, anddddd assorted Happy Hardcore (But I prefer actually being out and partying when listening to said Happy Hardcore.)
Because of how picky and all-over-the-place my music taste is, it's actually very difficult for me to find a band I wholly enjoy. I usually just end up getting really into a certain song and playing it over and over for days straight.
I like lots of music. Oldschool punk like the Misfits, Dead Kennedys, TSOL, Black Flag. Also Surf Punk like Agent Orange, The Ventures, Deadbolt.
I also love noise bands. My fav band is sonic youth but I also love Man or astro man and Whirlwind heat. Music from different countries is pretty interesting and cool. There are alot of bands from Iceland I am into like Singapore Sling and Sigur Ros. Air from France. The Raveonettes from Denmark.
I like things that are slow and beautiful or loud and noisy. Or both. 80s Industrial, Skinny Puppy, Pigface, all that is good shit.
I have a really eclectic taste in music but lately I've been absorbed by psychobilly, breakcore, free jazz and noise. Ohhhh, so much noise. <33 The Gerogerigegege, Masonna, Hanatarash <33
Yeah, I'm a MSI fan myself. Nine Inch Nails too...
My taste in music varies quite a bit actually. I have the strangest collection of music. I've been into the J-rock lately. Like Dir En Grey or Miyavi. Pierrot is good too but they split up.
Or J-hip hop...Yeah...
If it has a good beat to it then the language doesn't matter.
noise
Noise
I like Industrial, Industrial Noise, but also Death Metal and stuff like Marilyn manson. It varies quite a lot, but the lyrics have to be smart and there has to be something orignial about the music.
I'm really surprised there are so many noise fans here. Fucking WIN. >3
Yeah, noise bands are the best. I have been getting really into Wolf Eyes and Double Leopards lately.
Mars Volta, is there any other fans out here?
I like to stick with ol rock music from 70's to 80's with bands like the ACDC and Judas Priest. Also progressive rock pieces with mythical elements such as the stuff by Rhapsody can be very great especially if u have 4 speakers and a sub woofer. Also funk is good with the early stuff with james brown and mebbe even prince. Hip hop is tolerable with bands emerging these days it can sometimes get repetitive, well bands like cat empire and hilltop hoods i like. Also music from games and bond movies. Mixwaver songs are also good too with the bonus you can actually play them. incidentally are there any people who play mixwaver or beatmania?
I really like Mars Volta Nurse Komatose. :)
Industrial Electronica like Terminal Choice, Covenant, Rammstein, Wumpscut, VNV-Nation, Virtual Embrace, Blutengel, Skinny Puppy, etc. etc. primary, but I also listen to KoRn.
My fave MP3-Radi: http://www.rantradio.com
aw awesome! we should be freinds teleri
I have the largest gerogerigegege collection in america but I listen to a lot of crap too :S
I'm like the worlds biggest Rammstein fan. Well. At least the biggest fan for miles where I live. Even have the symbol tattoo.
But I like all kinds of shit. Manson, E Nomine, Rhapsody, Blutengel, Deathstars, Megaherz.. all in the top. Other stuff like Nightwish, tATu, Soil, Korn and Disturbed are some other stuff I like. Some old stuff like Judas Priest I get a kick out off too ;P
Ku, you're cool XD Rammstein is great, Manson is the shit and Deathstars, Megaherz..yes!! Where are you from?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VA-kcp36ek
(Skinny Puppy Musicvideo, X-Rated)
Not everything that I listen to is sooo gory (Lyrics or Video) but it's something I need something to listen to. (Like "Rammstein - Mein Teil")
I didn't expect Megaherz to be known in the UK
Thrash, Metal(all kinds), hardcore, D-beat, grindcore, noise, electronica, rock, acid rock, grunge the whole shabang really
Favorite albums
Alec Empire vs. Merzbow - Live at CBGB's
Gamma Ray - Somewhere out in space
The Haunted - One Kill Wonder
Alec Empire vs. Merzbow on Acid = Post Traumatic Stress Dissorder augmented with flash backs of sceaming "Why can't we understand each other!?" at my Vinyl player.
Sounds cool Nurse Komatose :)
