Any goths in here?
If you're really a Goth, where were you when we sacked Rome?
Nope. But I listen to gothic and gothic metal (among many other music styles) =)
I wonder what is concidered goth.
Whiny brats dressed in expensive black clothes, cutting themselves while listening to depressing music?
As for me, I'm definitively not like that.
I listen to Japanese visual bands, which are not concidered gothic as far as I know. My hair is dyed black, but it's because I like it that way, and so does my girlfriend. I usually dress in dark clothes, because I like dark colors. That's it.

"but it's because I like it that way"
"because I like dark colors"
I would think that goths, too, do the things they do because they like it that way. gasp (<- I hate using that.)
As far as your stereotype of goth is concerned: blacks steal and eat at KFC all day, Hispanics are lazy and smell, Jews have big noses and are greedy folks, Brits have bad teeth, Americans are obese and arrogant, Visual Kei bands care only about looks and not about music, etc.
Hey see, I can stereotype too!
The bottom line: no moral high ground here. =)

I just don't want to be called goth, because I don't feel like being classified into some "subculture". If you absolutely were to call me something, I'd prefer otaku or nerd.
It's not like I have to wear dark clothes either. I'm just used to it. Lately, I've been mostly wearing lighter colors, because it's so hot outside.
Well, those few friends that I have do think of me as a "goth". I have black hair, I wear black clothes, I listen to "heavy music" and I like dying/dead people and blood, but if you ask me, I'm just a psychopath of some kind, not a "goth". Depends on the meaning of the word "goth", though..
Personal labels are for the weak. A title is just a way of saying "I don't know who I am, so I just use someone else's style as my own". I dress however I want and I certainly don't go about telling others I cut myself, nor write bad poems about Hell, suffering or vampirism. I am not a goth. I am Trance. Goths can eat me. You can eat me!
Answer the question?
I don't think guro and goth are one and the same. I love guro, I love scenes of artistic death and H.P. Lovecraft stories and so called "darker" and experimental music.
But, guro fans can really listen to or read anything. I know a guy who's huge into guro and really loves indie rock and wears pretty damn normal clothes. Hell, I dress pretty damn normal myself; blue jeans and a t-shirt are fine.
Goth is becoming a really damn subjective term anyways.
I'm not goth, nor do I belong to any other "subculture". I probably share some interests with your average goth but when I'm told I need to fuck off because I sometimes smile or even laugh and don't want to keep dead, rotting animals in my room I can't help but roll my eyes and hope they'll get through puberty soon.
Hey, another Lovecraft fan.
(I consider myself goth by coincidence. People keep telling me I'm a goth and I've become bored of arguing.)
Gosurori > American Goth(ic)
You seem to have your subcultures mixed up. Mohawks are punk and not goth. Chains are OK for both groups I guess.
Caterpillar - Ever seen Velvet Acid Christ? The guy has a mohawk and is most definetly goth. Though a lot of people have called me a punk jokingly, I think my overall clothing style leans toward the industrial goth side rather than punk. What is and isn't a goth is of course a matter of opinion, I guess I prefer the term goth because I'm not a fan of all this new 'punk' music and would rather not be associated to it in any shape or form. I'm also quite heavily into my electronica, something which I don't think 'classic' punks would condone =)
Bryan Erickson is a kinda neat guy to talk to.... definitely a bit overzealous about how his own work compares to the rest of the EBM scene right now. He's got an absolutely drool-inducing gear collection though...
I though, for years, that I was a unique combination of experiences and tastes...I grew up in Europe, speak three other languages and have children. I thought my clothing and musical tastes where "eccentric", but very cool and stylish...
and here I was a Dark-Waver the whole time....
I like... Maroon 5. Yeah. And John Legend. Stuff like that.
Despite my love of all things dark, macabre, and horror. I do not consider myself a goth. Music wise I listen to horrorcore rap and death metal.
